THE JON C. NORWINE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The Jon C. Norwine Memorial Scholarship annually provides an award of $1,000 toward higher education in the college, university or trade school.  James & Sarah Norwine have established this award in memory of their son, Jon.  It is given to a graduating senior or college-aged member of the Cathedral who has been active in parish programs.

The deadline for submission of applications is Friday, May 17. The award will be presented during worship at the annual parish picnic on Sunday June 2.

THE JOSEPH EMMANUEL CORRELL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The Joseph Emmanuel Correll Memorial Scholarship has been created through the generosity of Ms. Pam Calabrese in honor of her dear friend Joseph Emmanuel Correll.  This $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a young person of the Cathedral who is graduating from High School and is intending on furthering their education.  The criteria for this scholarship seeks to honor the spirit of Mr. Correll’s philanthropic generosity and his love of children and education.

The deadline for submission of applications is Friday, May 24.  The award will be presented during worship at the annual parish picnic on Sunday June 2.

MIDDLE SCHOOL MISSION TRIP 2013

Sunday, July 7 ~ Friday, July 12

WHAT:  A week-long mission to serve the needy of Northeastern Pennsylvania.  WHO:  Middle Schoolers who have completed Grades 6 to 8, are willing to serve others, learn what it means to be a missioner, and build community with others.  WHERE:  Trinity Bethlehem’s Soup Kitchen, Gress Mountain Rescue Ranch, and St. George’s Disaster Preparedness Organization.  Ends with a day at Knoeble’s!

COST:  $330 which includes food, lodging and activities.

If you’ve never seen “Superstar”, or even if you have, you won’t want to miss this exceptional production at Muhlenberg Summer Music Theatre.  Dramatizing the last seven days of Jesus’ life, this rock opera, directed by Jim Peck (Cathedral member), will be a highlight of your summer.  The Cathedral has a block of tickets, so reserve your spot now!

Forums are adult education opportunities offered each Sunday.  Please join us!♦ May 5 and 12: Dr. Christine Luckritz-Marquis continues a three week exploration “Who is this Jesus, the Christ?”:  A historical exploration of “Christological controversies” that have impacted in history how different Christian traditions in understanding “Christ” have led to difficulties between Eastern and Western Church. In addition, Myaphisite Christianity, that is the Syriac, Coptic, Ethiopic and other traditions will be discussed.

♦ May 19: Celebration Breakfast – Celebrating our shared gifts of time and talent / Teacher and Mentor recognition / AND Heifer Project Celebration.
