The Room at the Inn Shelter

The Cathedral in conjunction with Bethlehem Emergency Shelter (BES) is moving into its 10th year supporting this ministry to those that suffer from homelessness in Bethlehem.

What is different this year?

  • BES has secured a single site to ministry to our guests. Every night between December 1, 2017 and March 31, 2018, Christ Church UCC will be the location for everyone to go. This will centralize the effort of ministry, to providing social services, and bring a sense of normalcy to the otherwise chaotic world of homelessness.
  • We will only be taking the “odd numbered” Thursdays during the sheltering season. The 1st, 3rd, 5th approach will also give other churches and service organizations opportunities to take part in this ministry
  • The single site also means housing men and women at the facility. Christ Church is large enough to allow spaces separated far enough apart to allow men and women to safely be served together.
  • Women volunteers will be needed to help during the overnight hours. This really means needing two men and two women for each night. A paid employee will also be on hand to assist and is responsible for staying up the entire night.
  • We will not be responsible for laundry service. This will be coordinated by BES.

What is the same?

  • We will be using SignUpGenius to seek volunteers. Volunteers may either go directly to the website ( , or speak to Deacon Rodney or James Reader to reserve a slot.
  • We will still be looking for individuals to head up the various parts of the ministry. One of the most important is the coordination of dinner, followed by overnight volunteers.

If you have any questions, or wish to volunteer, please contact Deacon Rodney ( or 484-225-3493) or ( or 610-417-7418)
