Music at Nativity

The Cathedral Church of the Nativity hosts an annual series of concerts and special liturgies to contribute to the rich musical life of the Lehigh Valley. Nativity showcases excellence in artistry from both local and touring musicians and brings audiences and performers together for transformative evenings of music. Concerts include solo voice, piano, and organ recitals, visiting choirs, and other musical offerings.

 

Evensong is offered monthly at the Cathedral on Sunday evenings – a unique evening service of music and prayer with a broad repertoire of expressive choral music. Evensong is a centuries-old tradition dating back to Medieval times. A combination of the monastic hours of Vespers (evening hour) and Compline (the end of the day), it was regularized during the English Reformation in the 1662 Book of Common Prayer and has since become a cornerstone of worship across the Anglican tradition. Over centuries, an entire repertoire of choral music has emerged specifically for Evensong. Through an immersive combination of music, prayer, scripture, and incense, it is a liturgy which fills the senses. Join us for this candlelit service as the daylight fades and the sun’s final rays illuminate the intricate stained glass.

 

Special liturgies are held around specific feast days. These include the All Souls’ Requiem Mass, Advent Procession, and the beloved services of Lessons and Carols for Christmas and for Easter. Open to the full community, these services mark important moments through the passing of the year.
